The Asamankese Circuit Court, on Friday sentenced a 24-year-old farmer, Isaac Boamah to 20 years imprisonment for defiling a three-year-old girl through her anus.
Boamah, who earlier on pleaded not guilty, suddenly changed his plea when the prosecution produced a journalist, who had interviewed him at the Kade police station, to give evidence.
There was laughter at the packed court, when the convict asked Joyce Sarfoa, mother of the victim, whether she was a nursed when she said in her evidence that she found semen in the anus of her child.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Francis Cobbina said at about 0700 hours on
May 6, the child was with her mother in front of the family’s kitchen when she saw Boamah passing by and cried that she wanted to follow him.
The mother allowed her to do so and later left for the farm.
Boamah later brought the child back to the mother after she had returned from the farm at about 1530 hours.
After Boamah had left and the mother was bathing the child, the girl yelled whenever she touched the anus.
When she questioned the girl, she told her that Boamah had defiled her.
Madam Sarfoa and her family arrested the convict and sent him to the police station, where a medical form was issued for the child.
The mother returned to the police with a report, which endorsed that the girl had been defiled.
