The Convention People’s Party (CPP) will publicly demonstrate its strength and appeal at a rally at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle on Sunday.
The event coincides with the 99th birthday of the party’s founder, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and will witness the historic launch of the party’s quest to wrest political power in the December general election.
The party is, therefore, preparing to host at least 21,000 of its polling station chairmen, as well as its teeming supporters, introduce its presidential running mate and officially launch its national campaign.
Supporters of the party will also show to the “whole world” their party cards as proof of the vitality and strength of the rebirth of the CPP, which is going into this year’s election as a focused and strong independent political party.
The flag-bearer of the party, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic yesterday when he paid a formal visit to the offices of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) in Accra.
Dr Nduom, who interacted with the Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Ibrahim Awal, and some of his management team, was accompanied by a delegation including the Chairman of the party, Mr Ladi Nylander; Mr Kwaku Osafo, a leading member; Mr Felix Amoah, the Campaign Director; Mr David Ampofo, the Campaign Strategist; Mr Richmond Keelson, the Communications Director; Mr Richmond Lamptey, the Campaign Manager, and Mr Samuel Kofi Ampah, a member of the communications team.
Dr Nduom said the party would hold a central committee meeting on Sunday morning at the Teachers Hall where he would disclose the name of the person who would partner him to wrest political power in the December election.
That would precede the national campaign launch at 12.30 p.m.
According to insiders, the National Executive Committee (NEC) has also drawn up a broad agenda for a meeting on Saturday, during which strategies to carry the 2008 campaign to a higher gear and the allocation of resources would be discussed. Strategies to reduce electoral violence would also be discussed extensively.
