The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has interdicted two of its national executives for indiscipline. The two, General Secretary Ivor Greenstreet and Youth Organiser James Kwabena Bomfeh are expected to meet the disciplinary committee of the party for allegedly dragging the image of the party into the mud, a press statement issued by the party and dated Thursday 12th July, the party said. It was signed by First National Vice Chairman of the party, Dr. Abu Sakara. “The Central Committee of the Convention People’s Party at its emergency meeting in Accra on Thursday 12th August, 2010 decided to refer Comrades Ivor Greenstreet and James Kwabena Bomfeh to the disciplinary committee to answer charges of conduct that are deemed to have brought the image of the party into disrepute contrary to Article 77 (a) (ii) of the party’s constitution. The central committee also decided to interdict Comrades Greenstreet and Bomfeh during the period of the disciplinary committee’s investigation. Comrades Ivor Greenstreet and Kwanena Bomfeh shall therefore cease with immediate effect to act as Secretary General and Youth organizer respectively, until the central committee decides otherwise based on the findings of the disciplinary committee,” the statement said. The statement stopped short of explaining the exact offence of the two except to say “The central committee wishes to assert the authority vested in the chairman of the party as the ultimate spokesperson and representative of the party superseding all other members in all matters. It also cautions all CPP party members that the central committee will not countenance any challenge to the authority of the chairman and leadership outside of laid down internal procedures of discussion and debate in appropriate forums within the party.” The development comes after Mr Bomfeh filed a suit at the Supreme Court with the intent of preventing Parliament from approving the STX Housing Project, currently before it. Mr Greenstreet was also strongly critical of former President Jerry Rawlings and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) whose Propaganda Secretary had said Mr Bomfeh was an NPP mole in the CPP. The Convention People’s Party has meanwhile urged its supporters to remain calm as the issues are being resolved. “The Central committee wishes to assure its members, sympathizers and well wishers that in spite of recent events the CPP remains resolute in its efforts to be a credible alternative choice for the people of Ghana even as it works towards unity with PNC in preparation for the 2012 general elections.
