Feuding partners of the STX Engineering and Construction Ltd, are expected to engage in a crunch meeting on Tuesday; chairman of the Works and Housing Committee of Parliament, David Tetteh-Assumeng has announced. Mr Tetteh-Assumeng, who is the convener of the meeting, disclosed to Joy News that the meeting would be held at the offices of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to iron out all the differences that are bedeviling the project. The sector Minister, Alban Sumana Bagbin and the Ghanaian and Korean partners are expected to partake in the meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning, Tetteh-Assumeng noted. “I had a discussion with him (Bagbin) on phone and he has agreed that we should schedule the meeting for tomorrow. So we have agreed that tomorrow at 8:00[am] we are meeting in his office to meet with the partners involved in the issue.” The meeting has become necessary following widely publicized claims of bad faith and expression of lack of trust the partners have raised against each other. So far, the brawl has led to each partner pulling out of the partnership. The STX Engineering and Construction Ltd was supposed to put up about 200,000 housing units across the country, where the first 30,000 units will been dedicated to the security agencies at a total cost of $10 billion. Some civil societies and opposition New Patriotic Party have criticised the deal, arguing that it was a bad one and does not give Ghana value for money. They have championed a crusade for government to abrogate the contract, but government has not yielded to the demand, with a defence that the deal is good for the country. Mr Tetteh-Assumeng, who is also the Member of Parliament for Shai Osu Doku, reassured the public on government’s commitment to seeing the project through, and asked all parties to exercise restraint. “It is the wish of government that to ensure that the affordable housing units are available for our security services. And so having known the leaders who are involved in this project we want to urge them to exercise restraint…Government is mindful about this project so all of them must exercise patience to make sure that this project succeed.” He described the country director of STX Mr B.K. Asamoah as an man who had some “setbacks” in projects he wanted to execute during the NPP administration, and promised that the government would “want him to succeed this time round.” Meanwhile, Mr Kofi Anaman, Civil Engineer for STX Engineering and Construction Ltd, has told Joy News’ Nana Yaa Fynn Thompson that the project is very much on course at some sites. He said site preparation works at the Kwabena will start this week, where he said the company will build 274 housing units within a period of 68 months. He has asked those who have expressed disquiet about the project to pipe down, noting that everything was in place. “In spite of the noise about this project, Ghanaians should stay calm and watch us perform,” he noted
