Demonstrating staff of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) say their Pokuase land being used for scientific research cannot be parcelled out to displaced settlers of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The demonstration held Friday, scales up their displeasure after CSIR Director Dr. E.K Adu on Wednesday warned government to stay off the land.
The Institute says their land at Pokuase in the Ga West Municipal cannot be used to resettle the displaced residents of Old Fadama popularly referred to as Sodom and Gomorrah.
Director of the Animal Research Institute of the CSIR Dr. E. K. Adu says the parcel of land is for pasture and livestock research where two breeds of cattle are under study.
In effect, the land is “non-negotiable”, he maintains.
Officer in Charge of the Pokuase station of the Animal Research Institute of CSIR emphasized that the Ga West Assembly and government cannot take over the council's lands.
He revealed that the Council has secured a court injunction that prohibits any person or government from evicting them from the land.
“Those who are trying to bring Old Fadama residents here do not represent government. Government gave us this land because they found research to be useful that’s why the land was given to us. We want Ga West Assembly and AMA to know that we have not abandoned the court and we will go there again if they continue with the relocation exercise,” he explained.
