The Deputy National Organiser for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Akamba, has described as “stupid”, a question posed by a reporter from the Daily Guide newspaper, Charles Takyi-Boadu, on President Mills’ health. Charles Takyi-Boadu who was part of senior journalists and editors who interacted with President Mills on Monday, asked President Mills to openly declare if he was not suffering from cancer. President Mills did not answer the question but announced his willingness to avail himself to doctors for examination. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso on Tuesday, Joshua Akamba said the reporter’s question was useless and wondered why such a question should be asked. “The reporter asked the most stupid question... The President thought Ghanaians deserve better and not to talk about [his] health status”, Joshua Akamba added. He stressed that during President Mills’ media encounter with the press last year, he (President Mills) made it clear that the only health problem he was suffering from was sinus related and did not see why a journalist should repeat that question. Joshua Akamba maintained that this was an opportunity for the journalist to ask “sensible questions that will help the development of the country, but he messed up”. However, Charles Takyi-Boadu said it was unfortunate that the NDC Deputy General Secertary saw his question as senseless. Charles Takyi-Boadu said president Mills brushed his question aside, but to him it was a golden opportunity for the president to clear all the doubts about his health. He added that President Mills insulted his integrity and the Ghanaian society as a whole. He noted that every intelligent government does not take questions relating to the health issues of their president as an insult and wondered why the government could be offended with his question.
