The Daily Heritage newspaper has apologised to Greater Accra Regional Minister, Julius Debrah, over the publication of articles with respect to his relationship with his ex-lover, Gemima Duffie.
The paper in two separate publications in November 5 and 6, 2013, had accused the Minister of shirking his parental responsibilities by allegedly refusing to look after the two children he had with Ms. Duffie during their love affair.
But the paper in its Friday January 17, 2014 edition, apoloised "unreservedly" to Mr. Julius Debrah well as withdrew the publications.
Below is a reproduction of the apology:
IN THE Tuesday, November 5th 2013 and Wednesday, November 6th 2013 editions of the heritage communications Ltd paper, a publication was made on the front pages of the said editions about the Honourable Julius Debrah, under the headings "Love turns sour,
Minister impregnated me and abandoned me and my two children" and "Bonking Minister... Julius Debrah Harasses Daily Heritage Reporter."
Since the publications were made, we have come to the realization that the stories were untrue. In the circumstances, the editorial team on behalf of. the newspaper hereby retract the story and unreservedly withdraw all imputations made and aspersions cast by us upon the character and conduct of the Honourable Julius Debrah.
We acknowledge that, the statements made regarding the Honourable Julius Debrah were unfounded and we sincerely apologize to him for any embarrassment and inconvenience the publications may have caused him.
