Okaikoi South MP, Dakoa Newman has commissioned the GH¢2.8 million Astroturf at the Awudome cluster of schools, Awudome, a suburb of Okaikoi South in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, a Senior Manager at Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGC), responsible for Corporate, Social and Community Relations, Stephen Donkor, said, the construction of the VON Astroturf Park at Awudome Cluster of Schools, marks the 26th of its kind across the country the company has funded.
Mr Donkor disclosed that the kind gesture represents his outfit’s fulfilment of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the community.

In attendance were the clergy, traditional and religious leaders, assembly members, former MPs, Akosua Newman, from the Office of the President in charge of Operations, and Representatives from the Accra Metro Education Directorate amongst a host of other dignitaries and stakeholders.

For her part, Dakoa Newman, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Management and Board of Ghana Gas Company Limited for providing funding for the beautiful football pitch for the Okaikoi South community.

Also, the MP thanked the contractor, Mr. Coleman of Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited for an excellent work done regarding specifications and deadlines.

Touchig on development, Dakoa Newman pointed to an uncomplicated classroom block sited on the school premises which houses the newly constructed Astroturf, saying ”next year by this time when we gather here, it would be the handing over ceremony of a fully completed classroom block, fixed with chairs, tables and other teaching and learning materials.”

In a related development, the legislator swore-in and inaugurated a seven-member management committee.
The main responsibility of the committee is to apply proper and standardised management procedures and maintenance tools and activities in order to ensure that the VON Astroturf Park is kept in good shape at all times and remains useful, serving its purpose.

The management committee would work with the management plan as designed and prescribed by Ghana Gas Company, subject to modifications to suit the prevailing situation at the VON Astroturf Park at Awudome Cluster of Schools.

Madam Dakoa Newman admonished the members of the management committee to work assiduously in order for the pitch to "remain beautiful as we see it today for posterity to also benefit from its usefulness."
Speaking to the media after the commissioning of the project, Dakoa Newman advised the youth to blend education with the various sporting activities they wish to pursue and also urged all users and future users of the park to always adhere to the rules and regulations of the park in order to prolong its lifespan.
