An energy policy think-tank, Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) wants President John Mahama to declare a three year power crisis, to allow room for government to deal decisively with the over 30-year old problem.
ACEP Executive Director Mohammed Amin Adam, explained to Joy News, this declaration has become neccessary because of the consistent failure of government to meet deadlines for ending the power crisis.

From October 2012 to November 2013, to May 2014, government promises to end power rationing has backfired. This has created public embarrassment for the government and palpable frustration among consumers.
The current erratic supply has been attributed to faults in two thermal plants at Aboadze. The two have resulted in a loss of about 430 megawatts and that is believed to have triggered the current crisis.
This explanation given by the Minister of Energy Emmanuel Buah, is supported by power generation company, Volta River Authority (VRA). But it is doubted by Minority MP on Parliamentary Select Committee for Energy, Owuraku Aidoo.
The MP said VRA always "schedule the maintenance in such a way that they always have enough generating machines".
Amin Mohammed of ACEP has therefore called for the three-year space to sort out Ghana's 30 year old energy problem.
The Minister of Energy has promised 1,000 megawatts to be generated from gas resources at the Ghana Gas company.
