Ghanaians have been reminded not to lose sight of the achievements of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) since the government has a lot of successes to talk about. John Boadu, National Youth Organizer of the NPP who gave the reminder noted that there was a stable Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the past six years and projected that all things being equal, the GDP could grow at 6.7 percent. He was addressing the inauguration of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) branch at the Accra City Campus. The occasion was also used to swear in newly elected executives of TESCON, University Of Ghana, Accra City Campus branch. The ceremony attracted Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Party Executives and TESCON members in other tertiary institutions. Mr Boadu said the NPP believed in the individual as a centre of his own development hence encouraging development in freedom. He urged TESCON members to project the image of the party wherever they found themselves and should not allow the peddling of lies about the party by the opposition. Frank Agyekum, Government's Spokesman on Governance, reiterated the need for party members, especially the youth to see it as a duty to go out and let people know about the good things that the government was doing. He mentioned the capitation grant, the school feeding programme, free transportation for school children on the Metro Mass Transport Service and many good things that the government was doing that needed to be lauded. "Such things are done by developed countries and not developing countries like Ghana hence it is a great achievement." Mr Agyekum urged TESCON members to defend the party at any time and should be able and ready to explain issues like the inflation, GDP, Capitation grant among others to those who did not understand such issues and were being deceived by lies from the opposition. Isaac Asiamah, Member for Atwima Mponua, said NPP was the only party that could take Ghana to the "promise land." "NPP has a future so never lose hope in the party, play a continual role in ensuring that the party stays in power,' he advised. William Ofori Boafo, Deputy Minister of Defence, told the youth: "It is a great time to be a member of the NPP. It is our time that real democracy has come to stay. We need to be proud as members of NPP." Seth Adu-Agyei, President of the Accra City Campus branch of TESCON in his maiden address commended the President and his administration for their concern in education. He mentioned the numerous infrastructural developments in some second cycle institutions and tertiary institutions, the computerization of admission into second cycle school as evidence of government's commitment to education. "This government is doing a lot towards development of this nation," he said and entreated all Ghanaians to take part in the forthcoming national identification exercise for reliable data for national planning, for poverty reduction, to check fraud and others. Other executives are Kofi Abututiate, Vice President, Yaw Amponsah, Secretary, Adelaide Otoo, Treasurer, Samuel Amankwah, Press Secretary.
