The body of the registration officer who drowned in the Tano River with registration materials has been recovered.
Gideon Kwarteng Yeboah, also a national service person was on his way to District Electoral Office at Half Assini to submit returns at the end of the third phase of the ongoing registration exercise last Tuesday when the boat he was travelling on hit a rock and capsized.
Whereas the other passengers aboard the boat swam to safety, the deceased who could not swim drown.
The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, John Fugerson Dzineku told Joy FM that body of the deceased was recovered by a search part on Thursday morning.
According to Supt. Fugerson, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Half-Assini Government Hospital pending autopsy.
The police have begun investigations into the cause of the incident to ascertain whether the boat was indeed overloaded.
Despite the loss of registration materials in the accident, the Jomoro District Electoral Officials are insisting this would not affect the ongoing exercise.
