The driver and vehicle licensing authority (DVLA), has confirmed that it would take them four months to process temporary licenses for drivers due to malfunctioning of the authority’s printing machinery.

Speaking to Joynews on Newsdesk, authorities at the DVLA said they are compelled to issue temporary licenses for a period of six months instead of the normal three months, because of these challenges.

In a telephone interview with Kemini Nyamanni Amanor, Head of Driver training and testing, C.W. Musa explained authorities are setting up adequate measures to outdoor a new system which would secure license for road usage since demand is high.

 “it is very necessary to replace the printers that we have, we want to develop a new system that does not rely on the normal pen drive at all…that is the system we are looking at and are confident that within the time we have stipulated, that would be done”, he said.

He added that the issuing of permanent licenses is still in progress but emphasized there are backlogs due to effects of faulty equipment, hence hindering printing of related documents.

In assuring the general public not to panic about the situation, he said,  “The process of getting a license is very easy and Ghanaians know it. If you need a license there are certain requirements. It is not an issue for the public; nobody should be worried about this."
