The Electricity Company of Ghana says it is instituting measures to check losses and other inefficiencies in its system.
It is estimated that distribution and technical losses account for about 30 percent of total output.
The company however says it is stepping up its game to deal with these issues.
The Managing Director, William Hutton Mensah tells Joy Business, they would start with power theft.
“We want to do a programme to meter our distribution transformers and compare their readings to the summation of the individual readings of customers who are connected to the customers.
"In so doing if there are any big variations then we would know that that area has a lot of illegal activities and we would zoom in there. We also have utility courts which has the support of the attorney general’s office and they have been working very hard to prosecute those engaging in illegal connections” he explained.
