The Electricity Company of Ghana is expected to announce a new load management schedule for the next seven days.
This has become necessary following the unavailability of light crude oil to power VRA’s thermal plants to generate power.
Over the weekend, the ECG was forced to shed as much as 290 megawatts of power each day, plunging many parts of the country into darkness.
The Energy Ministry has confirmed in a statement it is facing some challenges supplying light crude oil resulting in VRA’s inability to generate enough power.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Energy Dr. Kwabena Donkor is warning of a total collapse of the power companies if urgent measures are not taken to address the shortfall between production costs and consumer tariffs.
