The ECOWAS Strategic Planning Coordination Committee (SPCC) is meeting to finalize and adopt the Regional Medium Term Action Area (RMTAA) document as well as “chart a roadmap for its implementation”.
The 3-day meeting, which is being held in Accra, will see the SPCC adopting the RMTAA document which seeks to make ECOWAS an organization for the people, where citizens can directly benefit from the regional integration by means of easy movement across borders and enhance trade.
The Director of Africa and Regional Integration Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Dr. Kodzo K. Alabo, who also heads the ECOWAS Unit at the same Ministry, said the “vision document provides a mechanism for transforming ECOWAS into a people-centered organization whose programmes and policies are citizen-driven.”
Established in 2009, the SPCC is an inter-institutional committee of the ECOWAS Commission and its institutions with the main objective of facilitating the development of a comprehensive strategic planning framework, thereby ensuring the effective implementation of the ECOWAS Vision 2020 and the development of strategic plans that align with this Vision in a coherent and consistent manner.
The Director of the Strategic Planning Directorate of the ECOWAS Commission, Essien Abel Essien, outlined the key achievement of the Committee as the finalization of the ECOWAS Vision 2020 and the Regional Strategic plan.
He further stated that the Committee will achieve another milestone when it finally adopts the RMTAA which is an “addendum” to the Regional strategic Plan.
