Three suspected armed robbers who stabbed a pregnant woman severally with the intention of killing her, at Ituma in the Shama District, are in the grips of the Western regional police command.
The incident which took place on the 31st of December last year involves a prime suspect, Yaw Abban, alias Yaw Asante 22, from Takoradi, with his accomplices Godwin Afrifa also known as Chapters 22, and Lawrence Yeboah alias Negar, 20 years both residents of Sunyani.
According to the Western regional crime officer, Supt. James Kofi Abraham, Yaw Abban is an instructor of Rhoda Inn Driving School at Mankessim in the Central Region, a personal driver as well as an errand boy to the victim’s husband who owns the school and a residential facility at Ituma in the Shama District.
Yaw Abban is said to have spent an amount of GHS1,000 meant for the purchase a used car engine. The said amount was to be deducted from his salary by his employer (victim’s husband).
The suspect, who was peeved with his employers’ decision decided to retaliate by robbing and attacking him. He thus met in Saltpond in the Central Region with his two accomplices where they planned the operation for 31st December and moved to Ituma at 3:30pm. On arrival in the house, they met the absence of their target, Mr. Samuel Kwamena Boamah, and thus decided to attack his wife.
After stabbing the pregnant woman severally under the watch and instructions of Yaw Abban, the accomplices ransacked the room and took away two laptop computers, a digital camera, car keys, cash amounting to GHS15,000 and10,000 pounds sterling together with building and land documents.
The victim, Mrs. Faizal Boamah, whose intestines gushed out is said to have crawled outside the home where she was seen by neighbours and rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital where she was operated upon that evening.
She assisted police with information that led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Yaw Abban at Kaneshie in Accra on January 13, whilst the two accomplices were arrested in Sefwi Awaso on 13th January.
The three suspects allegedly confessed having committed the crime. Superintendent James Kofi Abraham told a news conference in Sekondi that ample evidence had been gathered to aid the prosecution of the suspects who are in custody, while the case docket would be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice.
The victim’s lawyer Kwamena Amponsah Dadzie told Maxx News his client is recovering from her wounds although she lost the baby to the attack.
One of the two accomplices is the son of a retired police officer whilst the other is also a step-son of a police officer.
