Chelsea have binned any talk of Michael Essien joining AC Milan after manager Carlo Ancelotti declared an end to transfer business at Stanford Bridge.
Reports had emerged on Friday suggesting Essien could be heading to Italy as part of a deal to bring AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo to England but Ancelotti says there will be no new signings this before the transfer window closes.
“We stay with these players here,” Ancelotti said in his press conference ahead of Chelsea's community shield game on Sunday. “I don't want to take other players because I think the squad is very competitive in Chelsea. We don't need other players.”
Ancelotti's comments means an end to Chelsea's pursuit of Pirlo at least for this season and any talk of Essien ending his successful spell at the club now.
