A defamatory suit filed against Daily Guide Newspaper's cartoonist, Akosua, by MP for Ningo Prampram, E.T. Mensah has been thrown out by a Fast Track High Court in Accra.
The case was filed about five years ago and it followed a caricature published in the paper after then President J.A. Kufour visited Mr. Mensah’s constituency to commission a project.
The court, presided over by Justice Ofori Atta, threw out the case Thursday on the grounds that Mr. Mensah failed to demonstrate the publication was about him.
Lawyer for Daily Guide newspaper, Godfred Dame, who spoke to Joy News after the case was thrown out, said “clearly it was a sheep that the cartoonist sought to draw in the absence of any special facts or imputations” that connected the cartoon to Mr E.T. Mensah.
“He claimed that there was a publication which depicted a sheep with a human face. And according to him, the face looked like his face and therefore it portrayed the impression that he was sheepish, sycophantic and what have you,” Mr Odame said.
