An ex-convict accused of robbing a taxi driver of his car has been ordered by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court, presided over by Mary Nsenkyire, to be held in prison custody.
Veron Adams reportedly attacked and seized a Daewoo Matiz valued at GHȼ15,000.00 from its owner at Sakora-Wonoo, in the Kwabre East District.
He pleaded not guilty to the crime and would make his next appearance on October 11.
Francis Quarshie, a 35-year-old contractor, who is standing trial with him for dishonestly receiving the stolen car, was granted GHȼ20,000.00 with two sureties to be justified.
He is to also report himself to the police investigator handling the case on the first Monday of every month until the case is finally determined.
This came after, Ouarshie told the court that he was innocent of the crime.
Police Chief Superintendent Emmanuel A. Akunnor said the offence was committed on August 25.
Adams, who lives in Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, engaged the services of the driver, Samuel Owusu, to carry him in his taxi from Kumasi to Sakora-Wonoo.
Mid-way through the journey, he pulled a pistol and asked that the victim surrendered the ignition key, which he did for fear of his life, and he made a formal report to the police.
The accused fled with the car to Ofankor, removed the number plate and changed the colour to avoid detection.
Adams was arrested on September 13 in a failed attempt to snatch another car and he was identified by Owusu at the Agona police station, where he had been sent.
He confessed to the crime during police investigation and said Quarshie received the stolen car.
