Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan Constituency, Kojo Adu-Asare has called on Ghanaians to brace themselves for a real show-down in court when the party’s General Secretary takes his turn in the witness box.
He said Johnson Asiedu Nketia who will represent the first and third respondents in the ongoing Presidential Election Petition before the Supreme Court would be a hard nut to crack for counsel for the petitioners.
Adu-Asare was reacting to a comment made by one Nana Boakye who is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team.
Nana Boakye on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday touted Philip Addison, counsel for the petitioners as a torn in the NDC’s flesh.
He urged Asiedu Nketia to prepare for the biggest 'humiliation' in his life in court because Philip Addison’s "strongest weapon is cross-examination".
This hype of the petitioners' lead counsel did not go down well with Adu-Asare who was a co-panelist on the programme.
He alleged that the premature hype of lawyer Addison is just a ploy by the NPP to scare Asiedu Nketia.
The NDC man stressed that Asiedu Nketia also known as General Mosquito is more than prepared to meet Philip Addison boot for boot.
Adu-Asare said the jovial comments made by the NDC scribe should not be misconstrued to mean he [Mosquito] is block-headed.
"People are going to have the shock of their lives what that man [Asiedu Nketia] is made of. That slim man is a bunch of ideas and an epitome of politics," he added.
Former Adentan MP stated unequivocally that General Mosquito is very experienced when it comes to electoral issues therefore he should not be taken for granted.
The NDC man said they will take advantage of Philip Addison’s "quick temper" to nail him in court.
Adu-Asare advised Philip Addison to consult all the legal brains at his disposal and prepare amply before he cross-examines a smart man like Asiedu Nketia in court.
In a rebuttal, Samuel Awuku, Deputy Director of Communications of the NPP scoffed at the level of confidence the NDC has in General Mosquito.
He said the mere fact that Asiedu-Nketia represents President John Mahama and the NDC is a big plus for the petitioners case.
Sammy Awuku recommended to Adu-Asare to shower the accolades on the NDC scribe if he [Adu-Asare] wants any party position.
He said Asiedu Nketia’s cross-examination is the least of NPP's problems because the most important one is that of the EC.
"For me the organizer the 2012 election is the EC so I am looking forward to the lawyers for the petitioners grinding and grilling them[EC]to get answers that would shape the future of our elections".
