A 35-year-old farmer, Kutenuor Nangku, who hit the head of his wife several times with a hoe killing her instantly, has been sentenced to death by the High Court sitting at Wa, the Upper West regional capital.The convict, Nangku, was indicted for murder and the trial conducted by a 7-member panel of jurors under the guidance of the High Court Judge, Justice George Koomson, after the sum¬mary and evaluation of the evidence adduced returned a verdict of guilty of murder.He was accordingly convicted and sentenced to death by the High Court.The Principal State Attorney, Mr. Robert Beke, presenting the facts of the case to the court said the deceased, Bongkyebar Kutenuor, aged 27 years was the second wife of the convict, Kutenuor Nangku.According to Mr. Beke, the deceased was a farmer and Pito brewer while the convict is a farmer and a trader, both of whom lived at Zambo near Lawra with their four children.The prosecution said on September 24, 2007, at about 7pm, the convict who had returned from the farm, was in his room and the deceased was at the compound of the house cleaning some plastic containers in which to store Pito, while their son, Kutenuor Dapila, aged 12 years was also in the compound.Mr. Beke told the court that the convict suddenly emerged from his room, picked a hoe at the compound and attacked the de¬ceased by hitting her head several times with the hoe.He said the convict after the attack on the deceased, quickly left the house leaving the deceased to her fate.The Principal State Attorney said their son, Kutenuor Dapila, shouted for help and the people in the community rushed to the house but the deceased died on the spot.Mr Beke further told the court that the convict later returned to the house and members of the community arrested him and a report was made to the police.He said a post-mortem report on the deceased stated the cause of death as cerebral contusion leading to Neutrogena shock and that the death was not natural.According to the Prosecution, the convict in his caution inves¬tigation statement admitted hitting the head of the deceased several times with a hoe.Mr Beke explained that after thorough investigations, the convict was indicted for the offence of murder.Source: The Spectator
