Representatives of the Second Edition of the National Forest Forum have issued a communique calling on the forestry commission to fast track the wood procurement policyThis, they say will ensure that only legally sourced wood is used for construction.Key concerns raised at the national forest forum include banning chainsaw milling without viable alternatives, inability of forestry commission to effectively review stump-age fees as stipulated in the L.I 1698 and the exploitation of rosewood.Other worrying issues identified at the forum, were the opening of forest reserves for mining, and trans-boundary pastorals.Reading the communique on behalf of the national forest forum, Joseph Sayeed Effah a member from Twifo Atti, Mokwa District in the central region said the group welcomes government's policy direction in the revised forest and wildlife policy 2012, but said, it has to be fast tracked to prevent further losses.The four-day National Forest Forum which began on November 12 brought together civil society organizations, traditional authorities, forest sector agencies and representatives from 30 districts across the country.
