A kidnapped fat cat which tips the scales at more than two stones has been returned to its owners after thieves could no longer cope with its enormous appetite.
Cupid, a pedigree Maine Coon worth ÂŁ3,000, was snatched from a back garden in Landskron, Austria, two weeks ago.
But he was mysteriously returned to owner Stephanie Frey after, police believe, he ate the catnappers out of house and home.
"I went to put out the rubbish and left the door open. When I came back, there he was sitting in the living room as if he'd never been away," said delighted Stephanie.
Experts say an average Maine Coon can eat three or four times as much as an ordinary moggie, and can polish off thee tins of cat food at a single sitting.
"They will eat good quality cat food or dried food but they really like fresh food and good cuts of meat. They have expensive tastes," explained one.
A police spokesman confirmed: "The cat disappeared from the owner's mother's house and then turned up two weeks later in the owner's house, nine kilometres away.
"Maybe the pressure got too much for the thief - or perhaps they discovered it wasn't easy keeping such a big cat with such a big appetite."
