The Ghana Football Association has revealed that Ghana Premier League sponsor First Capital Plus Bank has suspended their contract to sponsor the league.
The bank became the headline sponsor of the league in 2014 after signing a five-year deal worth US$10 million.
But last month reports emerged that the management of First Capital Plus Bank were not happy with the FA mainly for the way the league is organized.
The reports continued to state that the bank, because of poor branding, constant change of match day dates, low attendance figures and generally low media hype decided to abrogate the contract.
In reaction, President Kwesi Nyantakyi has spoken.
According to him, the bank has suspended the contract but insists they are yet to meet them to discuss the way forward.
“There is a request for suspension, the word is 'suspension' because the bank is undergoing restructuring but we are yet to engage them on this request,” said Nyantakyi.
“The executive committee is yet to meet and discuss this subject and if there are legal issues flowing from that we will take it up.”
