The opening of the Bagre dam by Burkinabe authorities has started causing havoc in towns around the Black and White Volta basins.
Reports say heavy rains have worsened the situation. The flood waters have destroyed road networks in the region.
Joy FM Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafiq Salaam, reports that the road leading to the popular hippo sanctuary has collapsed.
