The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service says the focus should be on active cases when discussing the country’s Covid-19 situation.
Dr Patrick Aboagye said this reflects the number of people with the virus as the total case count is cumulative and using it for analysis may be misleading.
Speaking to Roland Walker on JoyNews' AM Show Thursday, he said the active cases reflect the actual situation in the country as this is made of total cases minus recoveries and deaths.
He was addressing concerns of whether there is a need to worry as the country’s case count crossed 10,000 this week.
On Tuesday, 291 cases were confirmed which sent the figure to 10,201. The active cases increased to 6,398.
These have further risen to 10,358 total cases and 6,486 on Thursday.
The health administrator said the figures should guide as analysis as it can reduce stressing the cumulative number cannot go down.
Meanwhile, restrictions have been eased by the president based on “consultations and science.”
