Mortuary assistants at the Korle bu hospital are likely to suffer from some complex complications which may lead to their imminent death as a result of the environment they are compelled to work in.
The timeless question has alway been: If this happens who will take care of the many dead bodies rushed to the morgue?
When I paid a visit to the Korle bu morgue, I realised most of the mortuary assistants who were working on dead bodies did not have the appropriate working gear as expected of them. Others had to double their gloves instead of wearing a thick long glove as recommended. This condition has resulted in all sort of skin diseases.
As if not enough, these morticians are compelled to inhale the embalming fluid which is smeared on the dead bodies.

The dangers the morticians face, will not only affect them but also their families and the society at large. They mingle with us every day and we might walk home with a disease from them.
Despite the stigma associated with their work and the many stories told about them, their salaries are pathetic.

They were first entitled to some allowance after they organise mass burial for the many unidentified dead bodies, but this has been cancelled with no explanation.
Besides their unattended woes, their schedule is so tight that they work straight day with limited off days.
One mortuary assistant who pleaded anonymity confirmed that when he sneezes and farts, he feels his system is badly infected because the odour that comes out from his system is unusual.
According to him, he has no idea when death will lay its icy hands on him due to the toxic working condition, but as long as God lives, he will be fine.
Now answer my question: who will take care of the dead bodies if all the morticians die?
