Ghanaian Freelance Journalist, Edem Srem, has been nominated for the 6th African Fact-Checking Awards slated for October 2019 in South Africa.

This makes it a second time Edem been nominated.

He was nominated in 2014 for the first African Fact-Checking Awards in Kenya and won the prestigious title for Ghana.

This year’s nominated story is titled “Poverty of the Golden Towns,” an investigative documentary highlights the poverty levels in two mining communities and how monies allocated to these communities never reach them.

Sometimes if the monies come to the communities are short-changed.

The documentary which focused on Prestea – which has a mining history since 1923 – and Damang – which also has a mining history since 1990.

Despite the rich mining history, these mining towns have life has become unbearable for most of the people.

Poverty levels are high and infrastructure is poor, the available ones are in deplorable states.

The documentary was aired on Adom TV in May this year.

Edem Srem has also won several awards from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and is a two-time winner of the Ghana Mining Industries Awards – 2016 and 2017.

Edem Srem will also be speaking at the 2019 Washington DC Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival organised by 100Reporters.

Edem is working a series of social documentaries which will be premiered soon.
