The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has appealed to the "club of rich nations," the "G8" to make good its promise of helping to promote education in developing countries.
It said they should aid these countries with the necessary funding for education development to improve the lives of the people.
Mr John Owusu, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the Coalition, made the call at the commemoration of this year's Global Action Week on Education in Kumasi on Wednesday.
It has the theme; "Education for All: Fund it now."
Mr Owusu said even though foreign assistance for basic education in developing countries grew from one billion US dollars in year 2000 to five billion US dollars in 2006, it had since dropped to three billion US dollars annually.
This, he said, fell short of the 16 billion US dollars required yearly to achieve education for all in these countries.
Mr Owusu demanded that the international financial institutions also relaxed conditionality on loans to poor nations and allow for flexibility in order not to jeopardize education.
He asked for greater transparency in educational spending by the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education, insisting there should be judicious use of scarce resources.
Mr Joseph Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, in a message delivered on his behalf, stressed the need for stakeholders to join hands with government to create the necessary awareness among parents and guardians to enroll their children in school.
He commended the GNECC for its commitment to quality education in the country, pledging that the GES would work with the Coalition to develop the country's education.
