The Ga Traditional Council has warned it will not allow the much-anticipated ‘Judgment Day’ boxing bout between controversial figures Ayitey Powers and Bukom Banku to come off next week as planned.

The Council says the date for the bout falls within the period of the ban on drumming and noisemaking and would therefore not be allowed to take place.

The match which generated intense public interest has already been postponed three times.

In an interview with Joy News' Fred Smith, Acting President of the Traditional Council Nii Duodu Nsaki warned, the organisers would have themselves to blame if they defy the ban on noisemaking to stage the fight on May 15.

"Boxing is one of our favourite sports. Most of the champions come from Accra. So we all like boxing but the period is not good for the Gas because we have a custom. We have to preserve our custom, period!"

Asked how the boxing in Osu would affect the ban on noise making in Accra, he said: "Two of the boxers come from Accra. The supporters come from Accra and most of the people come from Accra. So when the boxing starts the noise will start from Accra," he stated.

He said they have told the boxing organisers to reschedule the bout but to no avail, adding if the organisers fail to heed their caution they should be ready to take responsibility for whatever happens.
