The Ghana e-Government (GeGov) Project, which would deliver a new electronic system designed to automate Business Registration and Tax Administrations at the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) and other revenue agencies would be launched in Accra on Thursday. The Project, which is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between GCNet and the Government, would cover the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). A statement issued by the GeGov secretariat in Accra on Tuesday, named the Project collaborators as the Ministry of Communications, GRA, RGD and the National Information Technology Agency. As part of the Project, new systems are being deployed in a PPP with GCNet and its technical partners for the GRA and the RGD. Phase 1 of the Project will start in September this year and will include Taxpayer and Tax Type Registration on the new tax system for GRA and Company and Business registration on the new e-registration system for RGD. From next month all new organisations and tax payers will be required to register through the new system as a matter of course while existing customers of GRA and RGD will be expected to re-register. GRA customers will receive a new Registration Number, Certification of Incorporation/Registration and Certificate to Commence Business if applicable. The main reasons for re-registration are to improve quality of customer records, facilitate improved levels of services, act as basis for access to variety of online government services including online tax returns, payments, appointments and scheduling and implement a government portal.
