Executive committee member of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has accused the Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi King Faisal Vincent Odotei as trying to create tension between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Government of Ghana.
The two engaged in a heated argument on Asempa FM’s sports morning show on Wednesday after Mr. Odotei backed Mr. Ade Coker’s stand on Ghana’s bid to host the 2013 men’s under 17 and 2014 women’s under 17 world cups, saying the government does not support the bids.
According to Mr. Afriyie, after the GFA received the notice from FIFA that they can bid for the under 17 World Cup in 2013 and the under 17 women’s World Cup in 2014, they then forwarded the letter to the Ministry of Sports for government's approval for them to officially bid for the tournaments.
Mr. Afriyie said this is because tournaments held in the country are staged by the government and not the Ghana Football Association.
Mr. Afriyie noted that, Mr. Odotei’s strategy of creating tension between the FA and the government will never work. He therefore advised him to learn the workings of the FA since he believes Mr. Odotei is not aware of the operations of the association.
Mr Odotei in a rebuttal stated that, he is not sure Mr. Ade Coker would have lashed out at the FA if they had gone through the proper channel of doing things.
He blamed the FA for not structuring things well before coming publicly to declare that they had bid for the under 17 world cup in 2013 and the women’s under 17 in 2014.
