The German government has increased its continuous support for the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre (KAIPKTC) in Accra.
The centre which was established with German support in 2002 has been receiving regular support from the German government both in human resources and finance. The centre offers training in peace keeping for both the military and civilians.
A press release from the German Embassy copied to ghanabusinessnews.com says the support by the German government is to help the centre achieve its key objectives of strengthening West
African peacekeeping capabilities under the G8 Africa Action Plan and the relevant EU strategy.
In keeping to its promise to assist the KAIPKTC to overcome its financial challenges in the face of the current global economic crisis, Germany has contributed GH¢225,000 and GH¢35,000 for the upcoming West African Police Course at the KAIPKTC and for the upgrade of the centre’s website respectively.
The release indicates that in addition, Germany shows its ongoing commitment to KAIPKTC by contributing to the personnel budget with an amount of GH¢155,000.
Germany’s support in 2009 includes as well the rehabilitation of the Gerhard Schroeder-Auditorium, named after Germany’s former chancellor under whose tenure Germany’s support of KAIPKTC started. Germany makes available GH¢80,000 for this measure, it added.
