The Ghana Football Association has named Kassim Ocansey as Head Coach of the Male National Under-23 team, the Black Meteors.
The Nations FC’s trainer takes over the role after the team was dissolved in 2023 for not qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Meteors, then-led by Coach Ibrahim Tanko, were eliminated from the group stages of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations and extended the nation’s absence from the global showpiece since 2004.
The country’s football governing body described Kassim as “the ideal candidate to lead the Black Meteors in their quest to regain their past glory” and expressed confidence that his “expertise and experience will be invaluable in building a formidable Black Meteors team that would be ultimately successful”.
Kassim, who has guided Nations FC to the third spot in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, has had stints with clubs including Accra Great Olympics and Bechem United.
