The frosty relationship between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports seems to still persist despite both parties striving hard to reach a common goal.
They are both aiming at seeing Ghana make a fourth successive appearance in the World Cup, but in the latest twist, the GFA failed to submit a budget to the Ministry for the upcoming match against Uganda in Tamale.
The GFA spokesperson Ibrahim Saani Daara explained the latest move is to salvage their image which has been consistently tarnished in the public.
“We presented a list of things required to make the team (Black Stars) successful but we have decided henceforth that we will not send any budget with figures on it.
"This is because there is the tendency that when you send a budget thinking that this is what is the best to help the team qualify, all is done from certain quarters is that, it is intentionally sent to some media with the notion of creating the impression that you have bloated figures or you are sending for money to be spent on yourself,” he said.
He said they have decided they will only send the needs of the team adding "we don’t handle any monies from the Ministry so they should do their own checks thus nobody is accused of wrongdoing.”
“We think that we do the best under very [very] difficult circumstances to make our teams work well but the ministry thinks otherwise. They do moves just calculated to damage the image of the FA and its officials. We have to protect our image.”
“Since we don’t own the national teams, I am of the view that they [the ministry] want the best for the team.”
No official word from the Ministry but the Minister had earlier on indicated he will be in the Northern Regional capital to cheer the team.
