Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie is very optimistic his boss Kwesi Nyantakyi will be among the two selected by CAF’s General Assembly to represent the continent at FIFA.
The President of the GFA Nyantakyi is facing a key career election in Egypt as he vies for one of the two FIFA Council seats available for Africa, and has received the backing of his assistant to emerge victorious.
Nyantakyi is among five candidates – including second CAF Vice President Almamy Kabele Camara vying for the top position.
Other candidates are Ahmad of Madagascar and Presidents of the football associations in Niger and Senegal – Hamidou Djibrilla and Augustin Senghor.
African football associations will elect two additional members to the FIFA Council when CAF holds an extraordinary general meeting on Thursday.
And George Afriyie, believes a victory for Nyantakyi is a victory for Ghana and thus is urging everyone to support the CAF executive member.
‘’A victory for Mr.Nyantakyi is a victory for Ghana…An industrious son is putting himself up for a position where no Ghanaian has occupied and so it is important that irrespective of our differences as Ghanaians, we all support and pray for him to emerge victorious.” He said at the launch of the U-15 league.
‘’As Alhaji Grusah will say Isha Allah, I believe that come Thursday September 29, He will be voted by CAF to occupy top position’’ He added.
The 36-member FIFA Council will hold its first meeting in Zurich on October 13-14 as its replaces the tarnished 24-member executive committee and takes responsibility for setting the overall strategic direction of world football’s governing body.
