The Auditor General, Edward Dua Agyemang has recommended that management and owners of Ghana Cement, a cement factory should be prosecuted for alleged fraudulent transfer of 121.56 billion cedis to Scancem International, the sole shareholder of Ghacem and non-explained expenditures amounting to 339.72 billion cedis.
The Auditor General said he had had discussions with the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Hon Joe Ghartey for Ghacem to be prosecuted.
“I have been talking to the Attorney General and hope he would take it up and prosecute Ghacem”, he said.
The Auditor General had accused Ghacem of doing the transfers to the Norwegian company between 1992 and 2004.
He further accused Ghacem for not being transparent in its operations and could not explain the expenditure of 339.72 billion cedis during the period.
These remarks were made by the Auditor General on an Accra based radio station after the Crusading Guide had reported the matter.
Reacting to the media report, the Director of Marketing and Strategy, Dr Dawson Amoah said that it was unfair and surprising for such a report to be made public by the Auditor General without contacting Ghacem.
He said all queries to them from the Auditor General have been answered and he recollected that the last one was about a year and half ago.
He further said management of the company was meeting on the issue and the appropriate reactions would be made in due course.
