The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the metropolitan assemblies of the four venue cities on June 28, 2007 towards harnessing various opportunities expected to be provided by the tournament.
The meeting follows the success of collaborations with the metropolitan assemblies of the four venues of Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale in their quest to make the 26th edition of Africa’s showpiece a success.
A Statement signed by Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of LOC and copied to the GNA Sports said the proposed meeting with the Chief Executives of the four cities would further discuss support for planned clean-up exercises scheduled for next month.
“The MOU with the Assemblies is calculated towards positioning the cities and their neighbouring towns and districts to draw their numerous residents into participating fully in the tournament through out the stadium activities and other entertainment schedules.”
The Statement said the LOC has declared the month of July, as a “Month of Sanitation” with simultaneous clean–up exercises on the 14th and 28th of the month at all the four venue cities that will host the CAN 2008.
The Chairman of the LOC Board, Dr. Kofi Amoah, remarked that the goals of his outfit would not be realised fully if the beautification of the cities and cleanliness of the surroundings as well as the culture of friendship does not convince a large number of the visitors to make repeated future visits to the country.
Ghana will host 15 other African countries in the 26th edition of Africa’s showpiece event early next year from January 20-Febraury 10.
