Officials of Ghana Hockey are still hopeful the male and female national teams can still clinch gold at the All Africa Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe despite heavy defeats suffered on Monday.
The male national team were handed a humiliating 4-0 thrashing by continental giants South Africa. Ghana has only one point secured from the 2-2 draw with Kenya at the weekend.
The female national side also suffered a 3-0 loss to South Africa. But, General Secretary of Ghana Hockey Vivian Dugblor is refusing to give up.
She told JOY Sports' Dennis Mirpuri, “What they (Team Ghana) are doing is, continue to watch the matches that the other teams are playing. And, you know they’ll have to get some tactical discussions and know what to do to improve upon the performances they had in the previous matches. This is the only way we can counter the performances of our opponents.”
The male team could challenge for the ultimate in the final, if they win their last two games against Zimbabwe tomorrow and Egypt on Friday. The Ladies national team also need a win against Kenya on Thursday to make it to the final.
