Ghana Poultry Project (GPP) and Holland Akokor have rallied massive support for this year's Chick4Chicks project.
On Friday, ten women who underwent a six-week comprehensive training in modern poultry farming(incubation) at the Delawin Farms graduated in a well-organised graduation ceremony in Accra.
Five from the 10 graduands are venturing into the egg business by selling eggs from poultry farmers. Organisers of the project have said they are setting each of them up with 100 crate of eggs.
Three women have also decided to start their own poultry farms.
The project organisers have already inspected their respective lands and built a 200 capacity poultry farm for them located in Bortianor, Nsawam and Techiman, respectively.
Two of them who already have existing poultry farms after the training are set to revamp their farms.
In a post-ceremony interview, the project coordinator for the Chick4Chicks project, Oheneba Akosua Kyerewah, said, "We had an intensive training which has equipped the trainees with the requisite know-how to embark on their respective projects.
"We are looking at supporting them with at least 1,000 birds each with feed as starters for them."
She added "Now we need financial support to purchase the chicks and feed for them to begin."
The President of the Chamber of Women in Agribusiness Ghana, Madam Ama Bonsu, a representative from the Ghana Poultry Project, Mr Asuome and representatives from Holland Akokor, in separate words, commended organizers of the project as well as the trainees for their strong passion for the project.
So far, the project has built a 200 capacity poultry farms for three of the women after their training.
Five of them have been established in the egg business, and two have also been started with about 1,000 chicks.
The Chick4chicks initiative is a capacity building program for women in poultry.
It basically seeks to Train and support women who have a passion for going into the poultry sector and taking it as a business.
