Ghana will soon start exporting gas to Benin.
This was the outcome of bilateral talks between President John Mills and his Beninoise counterpart Yayi Boni who paid a day’s working visit to Accra, Friday.
The Energy ministers of both countries are expected finalize the necessary agreements.
Head of Communications at the presidency Koku Anyidoho told Joy News the deal will be for “futuristic” purposes.
He said the deal was a “running agreement in terms of energy supply”, adding as and when Ghana ups her gas production it will supply their Beninoise counterparts.
The two leaders also discussed how the African union which Yayi Boni heads will be strengthened.
Koku Anyidoho revealed it was President Mills who proposed President Yayi Boni to be made the AU chair signifying a strong bond and relationship between them.
President Mills said the interaction has strengthened bilateral ties between the two countries.
He said they have also adopted a common position on food security for the impending G8 summit.
Both presidents have been invited for the impending G8 Summit in Washington and Anyidoho stated their common position, especially on food security will be crucial at the summit.
He reiterated President John Mills commitment to improve agriculture in the country, stating, “agriculture is a strong pillar in Mills better Ghana agenda.”
