Three districts have been selected to implement climate change and health projects on pilot basis.
The districts are Gomoa West in the Central Region, Keta in the Volta Region and Bongo in the Upper East Region.
Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah, Gomoa West District Director of the Ghana Health Service announced this when he briefed members of the Assembly on the project at Apam in the Central Region.
Dr Yeboah said the intense heat produced by climate change is impacting negatively on agriculture, social life and health.
He said climate change is a great worry to world leaders who had held series of meetings to find ways of arresting it.
The Health Service Director said the health project which is aimed at preparing the health system to respond adequately to the effect of climate change with focus on malaria and diarrhoeal diseases was born out of such meetings.
Dr Yeboah said a nine-member committee has been formed to be in charge of the project in the district.
He urged the assembly members to give their maximum support to make the project a success.
“You are opinion leaders in the electoral areas and the committee will count on you for the success of the project, which will be launched by the first week of June.”
