Dr Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, a Ghanaian engineer with the US space agency, NASA, has been awarded the prestigious NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal.
A citation accompanying the honour explained he was being awarded “For exceptional technical contributions to the Mars Exploration Rovers, providing comprehensive engineering support pre- and post-launch, including resolutions of rover anomalies.”
The award was presented on Wednesday, July 23rd at the 2008 NASA Honor Awards Ceremony at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California.
NASA's most prestigious honour awards are presented to a number of carefully selected individuals and groups, both government and non-government, who have made outstanding contributions to a NASA mission.
The NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal is awarded for unusually significant engineering contributions toward achievement of the NASA mission.
This award may be given for individual efforts or applications of engineering principles or methods that have resulted in a contribution of fundamental importance in this field or have significantly enhanced understanding of this field.
Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu is a Member of Engineering Staff with the Mechanical & Robotic Technologies Group at JPL.
