Globacom Ghana Limited has unveiled its Glo Soccer Academy, a TV reality show designed to discover the talented footballers in the West African sub region.
The show is to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for young and talented footballers between the ages of 14 to 17 to demonstrate their potentials and show that they can get to the high echelons of professional soccer.
The academy is designed to scout through Ghana, Benin and Nigeria for the best available talent between the stated age groups. Thirty three (33) lucky participants would be selected from auditions in the three countries with 16 emerging from the group to vie for the juicy and mouthwatering prizes at stake such as the opportunity to train at the prestigious Manchester United Soccer School and a GHC 60,000 pay cheque for the winner.
At the launch of the reality show, Mr Tunde Kaita, an Executive Director of Globacom International said the company was proud to float a concept that aims at discovering, teaching and grooming young talent to become world class footballers and the opportunity to also motivate young players, coaches and football administrators in Ghana.
“We are proud to float the Glo Soccer Academy which is expected to discover young talent, teach and groom them to become world class footballers who can compete with their contemporaries anywhere in the world and shine.
We are equally confident that the Academy will motivate players in the sub region to live up to very high standards thereby leading tom further development of the game.”
With football icons like celebrated Ghanaian star Tony Baffoe and Nigerians Victor Ikpeba and Tijani Babangida on members to serve as technical supervisors, the youngsters have a battle on their hands to impress the selectors and make it to the Reality show.
The Reality Show is scheduled to hit Ghanaian screens very soon.
The other participants will also be taking home Ghc 10,000 (approximately $5,102) plus a G-Bam scholarship worth Ghc 9,300 (approximately $4,744).
