Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that government is prepared to invest heavily in Affordable Housing projects in 2021.
He noted that this is part of governments' plans to revamp the country's infrastructural set-up in the next financial year.
Presenting the budget for the first quarter of 2021 to Parliament Wednesday, the Minister said the move is to facilitate the creation of jobs and the enhancement of artisan skills.
“A few days ago, my colleague Hon. Atta Akyea and I joined HE President Akufo-Addo to commission 204 new houses at Tema Community 22. These houses were largely constructed and supervised by local contractors and consultants under the National Mortgage and Housing Fund Scheme (NMHFS).
"This project was completed in nine-months, amidst Covid-19 pandemic, and created over 1,500 jobs. We will replicate this housing model across the country and alongside the agenda 111 district hospitals programme,” he noted.
Mr. Ofori-Atta further added that government's Digital Addressing System and the National ID programmes, during the period, will ensure that all Ghanaians and their dwellings, as well as business locations, are uniquely identified.
This, he said, is in line with attempts to formalise the country and improve its global competitiveness.
The Finance Minister then urged all citizens to collaboratively work in support of government's initiatives.
