Government says it will soon lay a National Defence University Bill before Parliament to create a specialised university for Ghana’s security services.
The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement at the launch of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s scholarship scheme for legislators and staff of the Parliamentary Service.
“I’m sure sooner than later, I’ll come to Parliament to introduce the National Defense University. It’s President Mahama’s decision that the Ghana Armed Forces and all its allied institutions be upgraded into a university of the National Defense University, NDU. We’ll come to Parliament to introduce a bill on that,” the Minister said.
The Minister commended the Speaker’s own academic efforts. He said the Speaker’s experience made him fit to lead any top institution.
“Everywhere in the world, Speaker Bagbin will qualify for a governor’s chair of any institution of higher learning, whether it’s Yale, or it’s Princeton, or it’s Oxford, or it’s Cromwell, everywhere in the world, given his standing and given the enormous experience he has acquired over the period.”
