Struggling Elmina Sharks will play as hosts to the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) at the Baba Yara stadium on Saturday.
The Sharks have made a disastrous start to the season, having failed to record victory in any of their games so far in the campaign.
The Elmina-based side currently find themselves in 11th position on the league table but are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
On the contrary, their opponents have made the perfect start to the season and occupy the third spot on the league log.
WAFA are yet to lose this season in three games. The Academy Boys drew with Asante Kotoko in their opening game, before convincingly dispatching off both Liberty Professionals and Aduana Stars in the space of four days.
Matches between Elmina Sharks and WAFA are usually very close, with the smallest of details separating both teams.
Last season when these clubs clashed, the Academy Boys did a double over the Elmina-based side – winning 1-0 at home, before again defeating the Sharks 1-2 away.
But just like WAFA, the Sharks have built their successes on a strong home record, and rarely do they drop points.
In fact, the Sharks have lost just once in their last five home games and that highlights their strength when playing on home soil.
That, coupled with WAFA’s poor form on the road – the Academy Boys have lost five out of their last seven away games – means the three points could head either way.
STATISTICS
Elmina Sharks have lost just once in their last six home games in the league (W4, D1, L1).
Sharks are yet to pick a point against WAFA in two attempts, after losing all games since they arrived in the league (1:2) & (1:0).
WAFA have won once in their last five away games in the league (D0, L4) that vital win was against Liberty Professionals at Dansoman this season.
WAFA is the only team to have had four different players register their names on the scoresheet this season, Aminu, Danso, Boateng, Nuhu, scoring six in total.
Aminu Mohamed is the only player to be involved in four goals this season, more than any player in this GHPL season (three goals & one assist).
