A former Attorney General under the erstwhile Kufuor administration has described as criminal, content of a secret tape recording involving the National Organiser of the NDC Yaw Boateng Gyan and has admonished the national security coordinator not to take the matter lightly. Ayikoi Otoo was mentioned in the tape as a possible target with loyalists of the ruling NDC tracing his residence and office and tracking his movements. The loyalists were also promised by Yaw Boateng Gyan that they will be drafted into the security services and will be given national security identity cards during the election period. Boateng Gyan in the 30 minutes tape recording also discussed an elaborate plan in which the activities of the loyalists will be funded by the Finance Ministry and be given soft loans. The National Organiser has admitted it was his voice on the tape but denied any wrong doing. He said the loyalists were being organized only to gather information for the party which will inform the strategy the party will adopt. But the former Attorney General told Joy News’ Jefferson Sackey it is criminal for two or more persons to agree or plan to eliminate others. He said even if the plan has not been executed, merely by plotting to do so is criminal and must be taken seriously. According to him, he got to know about the plot and the existence of the secret tape through his client, Kennedy Agyapong who he is defending in the terrorism and genocide charges leveled against him (Agyapong). He said the people in the tape were not only talking about him but have managed to secure his residence address, office location and the time he closes from work. That he said should be a matter of great concern for the national security coordinator Gbevlo Lartey who has hinted of an investigation into the matter. He warned if the current administration does not take action to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book, criminal matters have no limitation and a future government will reopen the case. He said the threat, though serious has not affected his lifestyle, stating that as a former AG he has been trained in intelligence gathering as well.
