The National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan says he is petitioning the leadership of the party to take action against its flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga for 'misconducting' himself by welcoming President Mills on his return from a medical check-up. According to him, the flagbearer of the party must be called to order because some of his decision could embarrass the party ahead of the December elections. Mr. Ramadan reckoned Hassan Ayariga welcoming his main contender at the airport is in a bad taste and casts doubts in the minds of Ghanaians whether the PNC is ready to form the next government of the country. The flagbearer of PNC has received a barrage of criticisms from his party members for joining a welcoming party for President Mills upon his arriving from a routine medical check-up in the US on Monday. Mr. Hassan Ayariga has however explained that his being at the airport shows his contribution to democracy in the country and should also be seen as being the positive side of politics where opposing parties should see each other as friends and not enemies. But speaking on Asempa Fm’s current affairs show, Ekosii-Senn, Abu Ramadan noted that the PNC flagbearer acted in his personal capacity and not as a flagbearer because the party leadership was not informed. “We (PNC) did not send Ayariga to represent us in welcoming the President. He never informed the party so he acted for himself as Hassan Ayariga and not the PNC flagbearer.” He asserted that the action of the flagbearer of the party should not be taken lightly by the party at all because it is an affront to the growth of the PNC. ”In fact as national executives, we see the action of Ayariga on that fateful day as breaking the frontiers of the party in winning the 2012 elections”. “We are all fighting as opposition to take the position of President Mills who is in government and the same person you are competing, you go and welcome him? How serious do you think Ghanaians should see us as a party? It shows you are endorsing President Mills for second term other than yourself which is bad. It is really disturbing to we the youth wing of the party because it will make our work difficult,” he stressed. Mr. Ramadan stated that the action of the PNC flagbearer is a mark of defeat for himself to lead the people of Ghana. “It is politically unwise for a serious flagbearer to do this”. He said he has written a letter of caution against the flagbearer which will be served the National Executive Committee of the party Wednesday for disciplinary actions to be taken. He lambasted the PNC flagbearer who had admonished party members to stop fronting for other political parties other the PNC, saying “he has shot himself in the foot”. ”You are the one who said we should stop fronting for other parties and the next day you are the same person welcoming president Mills. So how serious should we take you?" Mr Ramadan, who is also the Operations Director for Alliance For Accountabke Governance (AFAG) asked the PNC flagbearer to look at himself if he wants to know party members whom he claims are fronting for other parties. The PNC youth organizer reckoned that if Dr. Hilla Limann were alive, he would be weeping over the action of Hassan Ayariga because it is inimical to the growth of the party. “PNC has since 1992 shown it is a party of democracy by first congratulating every candidate who wins any election in Ghana, so what is the point in Ayariga saying he was deepening democracy in the country by welcoming Mills", he quizzed.
