Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has waded into the controversy over PNC flagbearer's decision to join the crowd in welcoming president Mills at the airport on his return from a medical checkup, saying he is not a serious presidential material.
According to him, any presidential candidate who is serious and wanting to capture power will never reduce his level to an opposing candidate by joining a fanfare organized for him.
PNC’s flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga on Monday joined hundreds of supporters to welcome president Mills on his return from a routine medical checkup in the US.
Hassan Ayariga has explained that his decision to join the supporters, mostly NDC faithful,to welcome the President, is to deepen Ghana’s democracy and to tell Ghanaians that politics is not a tool for self destruction.
However speaking on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii-Sen on Tuesday, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah noted that "the PNC’s flagbearer had no business welcoming and showing solidarity to a sick man".
“What was his motive of being at the airport. What was the purpose at all, did I hear he showed solidarity to Mills? How can you show solidarity to a sick man? If he was well, nobody would have wasted the time there so how can a whole flagbearer of a party celebrate a sick man”.
The son of Ghana’s first president, Dr.Kwame Nkrumah asserted that Hassan Ayariga has denigrated his position as a flagbearer. “I think the PNC leader should be ashamed of himself and the position he is occupying, by joining a welcoming party for a sick man”.
"Ayariga is trying to make a bad situation worse by condoning wrong doing of endorsing sick Mills to win the December election”.
The former coordinator for the National Youth Authority accused Hassan Ayariga and the NDC of trying to blackmail Ghanaians “by presenting us with someone who is not fit”.
